I am not a politician, and I think that having the whole council elected every 4 years it not a good idea. If we had half the council elected every 2 years, then everybody would know that there would be an election in their ward, when the elections came up. Parties could run proper city-wide campaigns, and would have to put up proper policy platforms, so that those of us who bother to vote could make informed decisions. As for PR in Bristol, I think that a councillor should be elected first past the post in an individual ward, a that way, those councillors who do a lousy job can be booted out in an election, rather than escape by being high up on some party list.

Somalis are used to pretty robust politics, so why should they worry about a bit of abuse from a Labour politician?
All Busharat Ali did wrong was a clumsy photoshop fake picture of himself at a demo, hardly a hagning offence is it? Shame he isn’t the candidate for Lawrence Hill again this time I say.

Actually Alex, I think you will find she spent a lot of her time popping in and out of the Licencing Committee even when she could be bothered to turn up. Her propensity for not turning up to pre-arranged meetings with other members and officers is well-known throughout the CH.

Actually, Terry, the Lib Dem figures *do* include Full Council meetings. And although Shirley may not be a member of any committees at the moment, the figures quoted by Steve Comer cover every meeting since the last election. Over that time, Shirley has been a member of the Children’s Services Scrutiny Commission and the Licensing Committee.

Admittedly, there are some councillors who sit on more committees than others, and so might have more absences. However, the (Labour) member who came top of the list only sits on one committee!

…By that logic every candidate in Bristol would put their posters up anywhere in the city.
Face it your man just doesn’t know what he’s doing.

Still, I suppose this is better than the Labour candidate in 2007 who stormed into Somali-owned shops and tore down posters they put up for his opponent!

But why is Kiely’s Labour opponent putting his posters up in Lawrence Hill and Eastville? Does he now know where Easton Ward start and finishes?
